[tag]Do Internet marriages last[/tag] as long as offline marriages?

With the rise and rise of Internet dating sites and the consequent couplings and marriages that result from online relationship building, critics and insiders alike are beginning to ask such questions about the integrity of the process.

Data seems rather scarce – due in part to the short time that Internet-inspired marriages have been possible – but the flurry of concern seems be ringing early alarm bells.

For instance:

  • Talk show host Dr Phil has produced a program picked up by Match.com to deepen relationships,
  • EHarmony.com has a “relationship lab” that monitors certain couples for at least five years to see how the marriages are going,
  • Mary.com has introduced personality and compatibility tests,
  • and various other sites have added an advisory board of sociologists, neurologists and human relationship experts, love doctors, and a slew of enticements to encourage feedback.

7Online.com is even asking “Are Internet marriages more likely to end up in the delete bin?”

Do you have any personal experience or comment on the strength and longevity of marriages that began at an online dating site?
