Wedding Vows Renewals A Growing Trend
[tag]Wedding vows renewals[/tag] are in… even the Wall Street Journal reports renewing wedding vows as a growing trend. After all, if such luminaries as Madonna, Robert DeNiro, Celine Dion, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston have updated their original wedding vows recently, why not you?
It’s interesting, too, that even the Sussex and Kent local government authorities (among others) in the UK have made special arrangements for folk who feel called to restate their marriage vows or remould traditional wedding vows to current conditions.
Suffolk County Council says their renewal of marriage vows ceremonies are for “any married couple of any age that have been married for any length of time that wish to celebrate renewing their marriage vows in a formal yet unique and personal ceremony”.
The council says such ceremonies typically appeal to people celebrating a special anniversary such as a Silver or Ruby wedding anniversary, those who married overseas and wish for a formal local ceremony, or couples whose relationship has been under strain, perhaps due to illness or other pressures.
The comon thread is a wish to celebrate their renewed commitment to each other.
The ceremony can be personalised with readings, a re-exchange of wedding rings and a selection of personal vows of commitment. There are also opportunities to include children and other special friends and relatives.
It is usually not possible to simply renew your marriage vows in the Register Office without going through another marriage. The situation varies according to local laws, but typically you will be required to give legal notice of your intended re-marriage, as if you have never been married before, at the register office for the district in which you live. The marriage will have no effect on the validity of your first marriage and the register will record the fact of your previous marriage.
A souvenir renew vows certificate is often presented to the couple at the end of the ceremony, as such wedding vows renewals are not legal transactions.
Ceremonies typically take around 30 minutes and several hundred dollars.
So whether you’re renewing redneck or fairytale wedding vows in Jamaica, Hawaii or Italy – or somewhere far less unusual – these wedding vows samples and readings might help:
